Election Periods

Annual Election Period

Lasting from October 15th to December 7th each year, the Annual Election Period (AEP) allows individuals to make changes to their Medicare plans. During this period, beneficiaries can switch plans, enroll in new coverage, or make adjustments to ensure their healthcare needs are effectively met for the upcoming year.

Open Enrollment

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP) is a vital opportunity for those already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan to review and adjust their coverage. Taking place annually from January 1st to March 31st, this period allows beneficiaries to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare. It offers flexibility for individuals to ensure their healthcare needs are met as circumstances change throughout the year.

Initial Enrollment

The Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) for Medicare is a pivotal seven-month window that begins three months before an individual turns 65, and extends for three months after. Ensuring timely enrollment during this period helps individuals avoid potential penalties and ensures seamless access to essential healthcare benefits as they transition into Medicare coverage.

Special Enrollment Period

Special Enrollment Period is a time outside of the Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), Annual Election Period (AEP), or other qualifying events during which an individual can enroll in or make changes to their Medicare coverage. Qualifying events may include situations like moving to a new area with different Medicare plan options, losing other health coverage, or becoming eligible for other assistance programs. Special Enrollment Period provides beneficiaries with flexibility to make necessary changes to their Medicare coverage outside of the standard enrollment periods.
